The Shard laser display
The tallest building in Europe is inaugurated by a display of 12 lasers and 30 searchlights from 10 p.M. The show reached its climax when the lights lit up The Shard, showcasing it from all angles after an hour long display.
The Shad which is set to be the tallest building in Europe, will open on Friday 1st February 2013, with tickets for The View from The Shard available to buy from Friday 6th July. The tower was redesigned by 74 year old Italian architect Renzo Piano.
The lighting event was scheduled to be streamed live on The Shard’s website and Facebook networking site, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra providing a musical soundtrack for the occasion, playing renditions of Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and the Finale from Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite to accompany the blinding display.
Prince Andrew was among the first people to step into the 72nd-floor, 360 degree viewing gallery at the official inauguration along with the Prime Minister of Qatar His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani, whose country has financed the building.
