A protestor holds up an Anti-austerity banner at Trafalgar Square on ‘Teenagers should be responsible for engaging themselves in politics, but politicians and adults, in general, need to do more too.’

The protesters converged at Downing Street and at Trafalgar Square following the Queens Speech and the official state opening of parliament.
The People's Assembly Against Austerity estimated that a few thousand people would descend on the area just outside Number 10 at 5:30pm to protest the Conservative government indicated plans to repeal the European Human Rights Act, replacing it with a British Bill of Rights.

I arrived at Westminster rather late for a 6 pm start demonstration but was keen to try and make something out of the evening. By the time I got to Whitehall, various groups of demonstrators were heading in different directions to avoid been followed. Followed a group to the gates at Downing Street and then finally at Trafalgar Square where a rally of sorts was quickly assembled. It's from here that I got my shots for the day, focusing more on the placards with large words on them.

Hundreds of people took part in an Anti Terror rally outside Nigerian Embassy at Northumberland Avenue. The rally comes following a year where terror by the Boka Haram militants has increased in the north of the country. Last year the militants kidnapping more than 200 schoolgirls in April, with thousands killed, mostly in north-eastern Nigeria and north Cameroon.

On the night of 14-15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. Responsibility for the kidnappings was claimed by Boko Haram, an extremist and terrorist organization based in northeastern Nigeria. 57 of the schoolgirls managed to escape over the next few months and some have described their capture in appearances at international human rights conferences.
Since then hopes were raised on various occasions that the 219 remaining girls might be released. Newspaper reports suggested that Boko Haram was hoping to use the girls as negotiating pawns in exchange for some of their commanders in jail.
In May 2016, one of the missing girls, Amina Ali, was found. She claimed that the remaining girls were still there, but that six had died. A further 21 girls were freed in October 2016.

The Benin Bronzes decorated the royal palace of the Kingdom of Benin in what is now modern-day Nigeria. Collectively, the objects form the best-known examples of Benin art, created from the thirteenth century onwards, by the Edo people.
In 1897 most of the plaques and other objects were looted by British forces during a punitive expedition to the area as imperial control was being consolidated in Southern Nigeria. Two hundred of the pieces were taken to the British Museum, London.

London, UK - 24 March : People walk back home on Romford Road with their basic shopping a day after Uk was put on lockdown.

I began my pictorial diary almost a week into the lockdown. At first, not sure how to deal with it, not even wanting to fathom how to deal with it.

On 16 March, the government advised all in the UK against “non-essential” travel and contact with others and suggests people should avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and work from home if possible.

On 20 March, Boris Johnson orders all pubs, cafes, restaurants, bars and gyms to close. The chancellor also announces that the taxpayer will meet 80 per cent of the wages of employees temporarily sent home from firms hit by the crisis.

On 23 March, the prime minister announces a nationwide lockdown – a drastic set of measures restrict movement and assembly. It is announced that police will be granted powers within days to enforce the government’s “social distancing” measures.

On 23 March, the 'Clap for Careers' was started, where the public was invited to clap for the key workers at 20.00hrs on Thursdays.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of China's Hubei province, and has since spread globally, resulting in the ongoing 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.

The Taj Mahal 'Crown of the Palace', is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (reigned from 1628 to 1658) to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare (42-acre) complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house.

The Taj was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage". It is regarded by many as the best example of Mughal architecture and a symbol of India's rich history.

Tourists stand by a mot by Angkor Wat at sunrise. People turn up as early as 5 am in order to get a prime space for the daily rising of the sun.

I had to be out and ready for a 4.30 am, after a 30-minute wonder at the Angkor site the previous evening, was very much looking forward to not just the sunrise but also for the tour of the attraction.

The road from Siam to Angkor Wat was busy, with virtually every taxi bike headed towards the site. Despite the traffic, the drop of at the stairway leading to the Sandstone is very orderly, with the guides dropping off their clients and moving on to park.

I joined the crowd, and walked through the Angkor Wat gateway and from there could see that people were walking towards the Northern Reflection Pond in the darkness of an almost dark pink/ orange sky.

The sunrise was a spectacular affair, as the yellow glow peers from just below one of the towers and this is reflected on the pond. As this unfolds, the crowds click to capture the moments which slowly unfolds for about 5-6minutes. By the time the orange glow is fully visible, the silhouette of the monument and its reflection is clearly visible.

Internationally acclaimed Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei installation exhibition of the twelve bronze animal heads representing the traditional Chinese zodiac at the Somerset House grounds. Designed in the 18th century by two European Jesuits serving in the court of the Qing dynasty Emperor Qianlong, the twelve zodiac animal heads originally functioned as a water clock-fountain, which was cited in the magnificent European-style gardens of the Yuanming Yuan. In 1860, the Yuanming Yuan was ransacked by French and British troops, and the heads were pillaged. In re-interpreting these objects on an oversized scale, Ai Weiwei focuses attention on questions of looting and repatriation, while extending his ongoing exploration of the 'fake' and the copy in relation to the original.

A shackled protestor wearing an orange boiler suit raises his hands during the  1oth year anniversary of Guantanamo Bay demonstration at Trafalgar Square.  Shaker Aamer, Ahmed Belbacha and 171 other prisoners are still held despite the 2008 key campaign issue of the closure of the facility.

On January 11, 2002, the United States brought the first 20 prisoners to the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. Over the past decade, the United States has held a total of 779 prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, most without charge or trial.

Despite promises by President Barack Obama soon after his inauguration to close the facility within a year, 171 prisoners remain.

About 600 of the 779 detainees have been released and eight have died over the course of the past decade. Six of the deaths were suspected suicides. Fifteen children under age 18 have been imprisoned there.

Ongoing US violations of detainee rights are not limited to Guantanamo. Nearly 3,000 people now held by US forces in Afghanistan have not been afforded the basic rights that even captured enemy fighters are due in a civil war, such as having a judge tell them why they are being detained or being allowed access to a lawyer.

The Guantanamo Bay detention camp (GTMO) is a United States military prison located within Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. Due to the facts that the inmates are detained indefinitely without trial and several inmates were severely tortured this camp is considered as a major breach of human rights by great parts of the world.
The camp was established by the Bush administration in 2002.
